Tiffany's Crown
The inspiration for "Tiffany’s Crown" manifested itself from an engraved silver joint protector with mother of pearl rings Richard designed in 2016. The butt section was fashioned from segmented Ebony and Ivory around the same time period.
Richard received a phone call followed by a brief visit from a collector with an idea to inset diamonds into a cue for his wife named Tiffany. The collector wanted something to be built for his wife that was as special as her. After only a few conversations and no other design instruction except for the diamond idea Richard began working on the cue. He let the collector know that it would be at least six months before the cue would be finished. Once Richard began working on the cue he commented that it was as if he had already built the cue before because he had been thinking about the design for so long. He was able to complete the work of art within three months.
Included in the butt of the cue are eight rings of intricately engraved silver, two of which are inset with alternating 1/4 carat and 1/8 carat diamonds, the entire handle of the cue is inlaid with silver wire in a diamond pattern, the three dimensional butt section of the cue is inset with marquise cut diamonds in four locations, the ebony nose section of the cue is inlaid with eight three dimensional engraved ivory points. The sterling silver joint protector is engraved with the same design as the butt section of the cue and wrapped at the top and bottom with diamond rings that contain 23 diamonds each. Last but not least the presentation box is inlaid with four large panels of ivory engraved with the same design as the butt section and the joint protector then outlined with silver wire inlays in the same diamond pattern as the handle of the cue and finished off with a beautiful red interior.
Richard considers "Tiffany’s Crown" to be one of his finest works of art to date.
