“2017” — In the early 1900’s Brunswick recruited just about every custom cuemaker in the world. They brought butt and shaft blanks from French artisans and came up with what they called model 360. The mystic that grew from not knowing who the actual maker was is prevalent to this day. As beautiful as they were, they are held to great esteem today. At a recent tournament I saw some new blanks, displayed by a mid-America blank maker, done with the points and butterflies of the model 360. About twenty years ago I did a few that I called “Athena” (as shown in my Gallery Cues section) but these new blanks were far better than what I accomplished. I asked him if he could do the shafts the same way and he went home and did it. I received a set and inlaid it with an art deco theme done in silver and 18 karat gold. I called the finished cue “2017”. I hope to do one of these a year and name it after the year it was completed. The “2017” makes it’s August debut at the ICCS cue show in Las Vegas. |
