Designed in collaboration with renowned painter, Basilos Poulos, this cue is a tribute to the art deco style of Erte. It's flamboyant presence is achieved through the boldness of its patterns and the textural contrasts of its materials. Departing from the symmetries of conventional cue designs, the alternating inlays of ebony, satinwood and bocate conjure up images of a distorted three-dimensional chessboard in the handle, and staggered gothic arches near the nose. The color juxtaposition of the black and tawny gold is enhanced by the stark textural differences between the dense, impenetrable black of the ebony and the grainy depth of the satinwood. The unconventional nature of the design created several structural problems which required radical departures from Richard's customary cue-building approach.
